FEATURES

One way Transparent Armor
Transparent armor polycarbonate
  • In the left side you can see how a 9mm bullet fired from the inside of the vehicle goes out and strikes the watermelon. This round fired from the inside of the vehicle first hits the polycarbonate. This plastic is very soft and does not deform the bullet. The bullet then continues and completely penetrates the glass (then strikes the watermelon, or person in a life threatening situation).
  • The exit area marked with the arrow is compromised by the outgoing round. This type of system is called One way (or two way glass). ISBIs patent was awarded because our system uses bent glass.

  • This same glass is turned around and stopped 20 9mm incoming rounds. This is a IIIA sample.
  • The incoming rounds first strike glass. Glass is very hard and deforms the bullets. Deformed bullets are then stopped by the polycarbonate.Stops bullet

  • The air gap between the outer laminated glass and the inner laminated polycarbonate prevents this armor from delaminating. It is also a lot lighter (up to 35%) and cooler (up to 50%) than regular glass.
  • Regular ballistic glass does not have a gap. The polycarbonate tends to delaminate over time.
  • Delamination

IIIA Multi Hit
one way armored
Made with a combination of laminated glass, spall protection, air gap and laminated polycarbonate. It is the strongest, yet the lightest glass in the market.
Our patented system of an air chamber technology permits the passengers to shoot through the glass from inside of the vehicle (reaction glass).  The air chamber also allows the interior of the vehicle to be 50% cooler (less heat transferred) and quieter than the traditional laminated windows.

NIJ IIIA SMG is 18mm thick (3/4 inch), weighs 29 kilos/sq meter (6 lbs/sq foot)

Level (B5) is 30 mm thick, weighs only 60 kilos/sq meter (12 lbs/sq foot)

Level (B6) is 41 mm thick, weighs only 85 kilos/sq meter (17 lbs/sq foot)

Opaque Armor

We use Silicon Carbide ceramic tiles (lighter option than steel) for rifle and light machine gun protection.

† For hand guns we use TWARON or Kevlar (laminated at a super high pressure of 15 bares).

This pressure from our laminating press is twice as high as the pressure produced in autoclaves, thus the laminate is better, complying with European standards.† This material is not affected by temperature or humidity.

The posts (pillars) and crown are armored with steel.† This steel is cut with plasma (CNC) in order to achieve a perfect fit.† This procedure preserves its thermal properties.

Armoring Procedures

Knowledgeable of your protection needs, ISBI complies with all the international standards.   Prior to being placed on the market, all of our products have been certified by US Testing Laboratory or Indumil, which are independent laboratories that test the armor at the maximum ammunition speed allowed by the norms (such as: US National Institute of Justice NIJ, European CEN, UL or Nato Stanag).

We use offset glass that is thicker around the edges. Most companys use an offset edge of 6mm, ours is 9mm thick.†

6mm edges can fail when attacked with sledge hammers or blast pressure (IEDs)

We manufacture our own glass with our patented air chamber formula -One way glass-.

To make sure that there are no ballistic gaps, we disassemble the original body to insert the ballistic steel.† All the door frames are reinforced with steel (to fit the thicker glass in place of the original).† This is not the fastest way, but it is the safest way.
